Humanistic thinking has its roots in the Greek and Roman Antiquity. It changed the  “theocentric” world-view of the Middle Ages, in which human qualities were compared to nothingness, to the “anthropocentric” world-view of today by shifting the focus towards a human-centric world view and positive human qualities. Pagan religions with life sacrifices like Satanism became publicly opposed. The well-being of individual people increasingly became the focus of thought and action. This was the ancient source of inspiration of the Human Quality Movement.
Relying on humanistic thinking, Rationality evolved. A rationalist bases his/her philosophical explanation of the world primarily on reasonable conclusions. Reason becomes the ultimate source of decision. Rationality includes the ability to unmask arguments as being false even when they are explained in religious scriptures. Linked with the Greek tradition of logical debate, in the Age of Enlightenment, Descartes and other philosophers and scientists based their thinking on reason and rationality. They applied reason to all areas of everyday life, exposing superstition and starting a scientific revolution.
Secularity appeared from the blossoming tendency of reasoning which started to unfold by Rationality. Secularity means to separate public and religious bodies by law – the separation of politics and religion, of state and church. If religion possesses political and social power, science becomes a threat to this power: if science with its accumulated knowledge can reveal that a religious dogma is illogical, the religious rulers lose all legitimization for their regulations and laws. Only the strict separation of worldly and religious power can assure that science can work freely and become able to support the development of our society. A great caution is needed at this point assuring that even though the information revealed by science are true, science shall not try to force its statements on people, harm their emotions or make them feel uncomfortable – like it happens many times in case Scientology. Secularity secures that religious laws and worldly laws are separated. Religion and religious laws became private matter, worldly laws became the official basis of a country’s governance.
The modern Rule of law has its origin within the philosophy of the times of Enlightenment. The initial breakthrough was made during the French revolution in the 18th century. It represents justice through secular laws and contributions, and it is synonymous with “freedom of state”. Rule of law is based on separation of powers, that means the separation of authorities (legislation, executive, jurisdiction) and involves for the citizen as a individual a security mechanisms, that all three governmental bodies control and check one another at all times, thus preventing misuse and misfeasance of the respective power. An independent authority watches over these exact rights and also over possible denials or violation. This also means that the individual can appeal to this legal authority to enforce his/her own rights. Rule of law applies the same laws on everyone without double standard, and on the other hand every citizen is equally entitled to make use of it – claiming their legal rights -. Freedom of speech, gender equality and freedom of religion are one of the most precious values and laws of democracy.
Democracy is the term for a political system where sovereignty is based and relies on the will of the people and where the government is accountable to the people. Representatives are periodically elected by the people in free elections. It has a democratic constitution. Due to high level of freedom of opinion it includes the existence of an opposition. The most perfected level of democracy – in countries like Switzerland, where people’s awareness, responsibility and intelligence level is high -, is direct democracy with participation of all layers of society.
Human rights shall be a universal law accepted by democratic countries, made by people for people. The aim is to lead people towards more humanistic, more positive views and therefore give a greater opportunity to more happy views, value systems, interaction styles and behaviour. It must be based on universally positive morals, ethics and values, which are measured and evaluated not based on a double standard or hidden agendas, but on publicly agreed norms.
Human rights and human development are based on human values.

Money can’t buy happiness – or?

How can it be that the national average data of happiness is time-to-time decreasing and the individual’s data is slightly increasing only? The reason is the diversification of the income. Rich get richer, and as numbers show the poor get more poorer.
